Weekend reading material and RNS Quote of the Day

I’ll be going to the Gun Show first thing in the AM after work tomorrow and might not have time to post much, so here are some links to what I’ll be re-reading over the weekend.

Michael J. Totten writes a wonderful post about the Yezidi people, who were attacked last week in the northern Kurd region of Iraq, most likely by al Qaeda.

Jeff G at the Protien Wisdom Pub takes a quick look at the will and ideas of Progressives.

Adriana Lukas, at Samizdata, uses the excellent HBO (and not Showtime) series “Rome” to discuss heirarchies, both past and present. You don’t have to have watched the series for the post to still be relevant, though HBO did such an excellent job on it that you really should watch it anyway (spoiler alert: Ceasar is murdered in the Roman Senate).

Btw, simply because I love this pic, this is one of the available wallpapers at Samizdata

Lastly, her post gives us our QotD which, while I never knew it existed until yesterday, explains exactly why I, and I think most others, became bloggers.

And I sit here and some of what I’m hearing is how to work in the system. Well I say fuck the system — it’s dead it’s stupid it’s non-responsive it’s counter productive it’s fucking socially evil and if we put any more of our goddamn time into propping up these dead-ass morons we deserve what we fucking get…. We’re not going to work in the system because THE SYSTEM DOES NOT WANT US.

Chris Locke

Locke was ranting about his employer at the time, but when I read it, I immediately though of my local government, and especially, the MSM.

Here are Ms. Lukas’ thoughts on it.

Have a nice day, all
