Skunked

I came home with nothing from the gun show, which is very odd.

Oh sure, i picked up an original sling for The Hun Bastard, and an aftermarket one for the Israeli Mauser. A couple of steel G3 mags somehow got bought as well, but no new rifles or pistols.

I spent most of the morning there tryign to talk a guy out of his Marlin 1895SS in 45-70, but he was stuck at $50 more than I was willing to go. Oh well, I’ll see him next month, I’m sure.

That and I don’t really need another caliber added to my collection just yet. I’ve already got four pistol calibers to worry about, not counting 22LR and two rifle calibers. Waidaminnit! Only two rifle calibers? Hmm, maybe I do need another?

UPDATE: On the upside, since I didn’t buy anything at the show and was looking for it there, I just finished up buying this for the Israeli Mauser (which I’m sure David will approve of (and which I reallyneed to get a name to)).

    Maybe I’ve got enough…

Besides .22 LR, I’ve got to worry about 5 pistol calibers, and 6 rifle calibers. And one shotgun gauge…

    Maybe I don’t have enough…

I forgot all about the 22LR rifles, and the 12 gauges.

Six rifle calibers? I need to quit buying 7.62×51 rifles, I suppose? I’ll have three rifle calibers when I finally get around to finishing the Bushmaster project and adding the mousepopper caliber.

Geez, I don’t feel so badly now.

    Let’s see now…
How many MILSURP calibers are you missing???

    Merle

I only need one good one, and I’ve got it.

    Nice big lots of it.

Excellent choice on the scope. You will love it, especially when you see how fast you can get on to targets at various ranges without touching the elevation knobs.

Let’s see, I have two rimfire and six centerfire rifle calibers, five pistol calibers (seven if you count .38/.357 and .44 Special/.44 Mag as four calibers instead of two), one oddball blackpowder M/L caliber, and two shotgun calibers.

    Uh, and no milsurps. Hmm….

Well, I just put the money down on an M1A this weekend, so I think I made up for your lack of purchases.

Once I can actually handle the product I purchase (damn me for living in Kalifornistan), that will bring me up to… oh… one caliber each for pistols and rifles. Go me!

Of course, I may have just spent my gun-purchasing credit with Better Half for the next many, many years, so that may be it for the time. I did, however, neglect to mention the wonderful accessories you can get for it…

  7. David says:

    Congratulations on the M1A!

I’m still saving for one, and it will be many months for me. Despite Phil’s urgings, I just can’t bear to part with a Weatherby (which would pay for an M1A for sure).

I’ll toss in my rifle milsurp calibers:
    6.5 Swede (x2)
    7.5 Swiss
    7.62x54R
    7.62NATO (CETME)
then 6 pistol calibers and 1 shotgun. I suspect Freddy suffers from having to dish out as much cash for reloading dies as I do. Those 6.5 Swede rounds never come cheap. Even from milsurp sources.
