Misfiring Synapeses?

I can think of a couple of other reasons for what Steve Benen wrote over at the Carpetbagger, but they’re rather uncomplimentary.

He blathers on and on about the problem of toys coming in from China with lead in the paint and points scathing fingers at “The Market” as the reason consumers are buying potentially poisonous products and as the only receptacle for blame in the letting down of consumers.

He then spends the rest of his post relaying how the federal government, who is supposed to be regulating this stuff, and not “The Market”, for letting this stuff through.

Does he seriously think that the government is “The Market”? And if so, does his readership think the same?

And if so, should people that stupid be allowed to vote?

“The Market” is taking care of the problem. People are slamming the brakes on their buying of Chinese products and Chinese manufacturing plant owners/managers are “committing suicide just before the Chinese police arrive”.

That should clean up those bad Chinese imports real damn quick.

Actually, that’s Steve Benen (not Steve Beren) who posted on the subject of Chinese imports.

I’m a fiscal conservative and supporter of free markets, and I’d rather not have anyone confuse me with Steve Benen.

Oops, ya pissed off a pol, Phil. Heavens to murgatroid!

Actually, this trend of Chinese executives going to the wall or eating their pistols doesn’t solve much of anything, since the offenders are replaced with more commie kool-aid drinkers.

The problem is the throw-away ethic. I passed on most of my toys to my kids, but (if they ever have any kids), they probably won’t do the same, because to them, toys aren’t for giving a kid pleasure, they are “valuable” teaching tools, so must always be current in the topical teaching theory of the day. That is how we got Tinkie-Winkie, etc.

If we would just let our kids play for the sake of playing, they would grow up with a better point of view, develop more imagination, and learn some free thinking.
