If they’d Have Just Left It Well Enough Alone

In California, a group called Californians for Equal Representation has sponored an inititive to change the way the state divides up it’s electoral college votes.

Called “The Presidential Election Reform Act”, it would divide up 53 of the 55 EC votes to the candidate who won each of the Congressional Districts and then the final two to the actual state-wide winner.

While this sounds as atrocious as it actually is, and quite probably Unconstitutional as well, it brings a warmth to my heart because of the reaction from those on the left.

You see, the CfER group was started by a rather influential Republican lawyer, and in using recent history to watch how each Californian CD votes, this plan could prove a windfall for the Republican Party candidate.

And, in their usual fashion, lefties high and low are fuming about it.

Hendrik Hertzberg at the New Yorker labels it a scam.

The FireDogLake bloggers are similarly shaking in their Birkenstocks while simultaneously attempting posed fuminations at the idea of changing the Electoral College (they’d much rather just get rid of it altegether).

But, of course, they’ll never mention that it was their side of the political ailse who most recently demanded that the EC was old fashioned, and my personal favorite “Not in line with our democracy.”

Makes you wonder just how much sleep they got in their US History classes.

I got a poll call about this on Thursday. The lady on the other end was in awe of my knowledge of the Electoral College. At the end I asked her how many people she had talked to had any clue about it and why it exists. A lot of the arguments about voting it down were centered around two three things. One that the Rebubs would win, Two vote it down so that next year they could get rid of it altogether, and three, to make CA a “Battle Ground State”. Although I would like a Rebub over a Dem, I am not willing to change how the EC works. Also against getting rid of it in total, which the lib media trys to do all the time talking about the majority vote. And third, I could care less if it is a battle ground state. They tried moving the primary up to become one and then everyone else moved their primary. So I get to miss out on all the misinformation spread during the primary because we are not a battle ground state. fine by me. Anything said before someone is elected really cannot be counted on anyway, and to be honest Iowa and Maine need to be catered to because I can guarantee you that CA is catered to for the four years of the term. Why, well because we provide way too much money for both parties. There you go. Keep the EC and do not make this godforsaken state any worse by making it a “Battle Ground”. I look forward to watching “The Office” without too much political propaganda.
