A Tangled Webb

The Seattle Leftists are currently mourning the recent discovery of the corpse of one of their own.

Mike Webb was a true “looney leftist” who had a late nite radio show on the local big AM station, 710 KIRO. I say had, because he was fired from that gig just before New Years, 2006 after getting arrested and charged with insurance fraud.

And that is where Webb’s public downfall began.

Webb got into an accident in the summer of 2006. At the scene, the only proof of insurance he was able to produce was a five-year old card from National Merit. He later produced a card from Geico, but Geico’s records showed that the policy was purchased after the accident. He went to court and was convicted.

However, Webb still insisted he was innocent and that a hacker/cracker who “hated” him had somehow broken into Geico’s computer system and changed the information.

And that is the most perfect example of how Mike Webb’s mind worked. Everything was a conspiracy to him. He was always the victim of some grand plot to bring him down. He would even refuse to let his picture be published because he was sure that someone would see what he looked like and target him for some thing or another.

It’s not surprising he was that way, looking at who he hung around with. His shows were like the most loose screw Air America radio shows, before Air America even began, except without even so much as an ounce of the sanity that Air America can generally find in a cup somewhere. The guy was truly unhinged at all times.

His favorite guests were Scott “Kiddie Diddler” Ritter and Mr. Valerie Plame, Jackass Joe Wilson. His topics ranged from how the BushMcHitlerChimpyBurton was going to put American leftists into camps and bring about the Fourth Reich to having St. Pancake Rachel Corrie’s pals the International Solidarity Movement speak of how Israel needs to be eliminated.

But it was the formal charges for insurance fraud that showed Webb’s world for what it truly was: A hell he created for himself.

After being fired he retreated into his home and would publish streaming on-line audio screeds. I could only stand to listen to a couple of them, but I could tell and I believed that Webb was going to need some serious time in a white wool coat with wrap-around arms in the very near future.

But that was not to be. In mid-April, shortly after Webb was sentenced for his crimes, he disappeared. His broadcasts stopped. His friends no longer received phone calls and no one saw him coming and going from his home. Since it is not illegal to be an adult and be a missing person, the Missing Persons report was not filed until mid-May.

The Seattle police made a cursory search of the home shortly thereafter and did the usual, by-the-book interviews. The property manager stopped by and inspected the home shortly thereafter, leaving an eviction notice on the front door as required by law. He noted that Webb’s three CPU’s were missing at that time. The monitors, keyboards and mice for each were still there, but the CPU’s were gone. Other than that, everything seemed to be as it had been whenever the manager had stopped by previously.

The summer previous, Webb’s longtime pet dog, Francis, had spent the last weeks of it’s life in the basement vomiting, deficating and urinating. The property manager had told Webb that he would be responsible for the clean-up of the mess and the treatment for the odor. This is most likely why, even with the SPD bringing out their cadaver dogs week’s earlier, Webb’s body was not discovered in the basement until late last week, when the property manager was having the basement cleaned out to get the house ready for new tenants and something wrapped in a blue tarp was discovered stuffed in a basement crawl space. A Coroner’s report concluded that the body was Webb’s and that it had been stabbed multiple times.

Of course, Webb’s fans are sure that it was some crazed right-winger who did the killing. So much so that they were blaming a local leftist who blogs about local talk radio for posting pices of Webb against his wishes, of course giving some crazed righty the ability to target Webb. This despite multiple media reports of Webb co-habitating at the home with junkies and other “sketchy looking” people who were scaring the neighbors in the normally pretty damn quite north Queen Anne neighborhood where he resided.

The guy seems to have erased the comments, but if you read the property manager’s words at the site here, you will read that the Webb conspiracy theory loving sycophants ignore all that and even start in on suspecting the property manager.

Even if he hadn’t been off the air for over 18 months, I still wouldn’t be able to miss Mike Webb. He was a lying asshole who was given way too much clout in the radio business in this town. His ability to get 20,000 people to listen to him rant at 0100 in a city of 580,000 would be commendable, except for the fact that he was broadcasting in one of craziest cities on the planet. His lies and miscontructions to fit his and his listeners need for victimhood seem to have been proven to be too much for even his gigantic ego.
