A Quick Note on July 5th

FYI: Do Not, I repeat, Do Not toss you used fireworks into your trash can for collection by your municipality’s trash collector.

The truck that picks up your trash will be compacting said items with enough PSI to juice you. This process wakes up all the “inert” particles inside your “used” fireworks and can very easily start a spontaneous combustion of the residue and the load inside the truck will begin to smoulder, leading to an onboard fire.

Which looks something like this

I can guarantee you that my employer will have at least one of these happen today, though because I’m not at work, I won’t be able to get pictures for you. Usually our drivers can dump the load before it gets that far gone, but that mess is something entirely more disgusting, having been dumped right on the pavement of a street or parking lot. We have a crew trained for specifically that clean-up process.

Your best bet is to burn the “used” fireworks in a barrel. Your next best bet would be to soak them thoroughly in a bucket of water for a couple days before throwing them out (you did have “Dud Buckets” out during your celebrations, right?).

Safety doesn’t end because you have to go to work then next day, folks.

My fair city of Livermore posted helpful electronic signs all over town informing us that ALL FIREWORKS ARE ILLEGAL IN LIVERMORE, so we of course won’t have any problems of this sort. Well, at least none that can be spoken of….

Waste Management (our trash carrier here) just locked out its drivers this week. Wonder if they’ve briefed the replacement drivers about this problem?

Unfortunately, “burn barrels” are illegal in Washington State.

Unfortunately, fireworks are illegal here in Kalifornistan.

That said… ouchies. You have a special team just for that purpose, though? Good grief…
