Worst Idea Ever?

This one makes at least the Top 10 for Worst Ideas By A City Government Ever.

From the Tuesday Seattle PI Board Editorial

Maybe the cops shows of the future will show tough detectives and beat officers sipping their coffee out of reusable cups and chasing the baddies in hybrid cars.

And when the television tough guys go that route, our officers in Seattle can say they’ve been on top of the trend for years.

As part of the city’s 1999 Environmental Management Plan, the Seattle Police Department has made some changes that have painted our local law enforcement green.

Reusable road flares, hybrid vehicles, reports scanned onto CD-ROMs rather than printed (and reprinted again and again). Those changes cost more now, but given what we’re up against in terms of global warming and overflowing landfills, they’re smart long-term choices we’re thrilled to hear of.

True, there’s some resistance among old-school police officers when it comes to using smaller, more fuel-efficient hybrid vehicles — it’s hard to look bad-assed when driving the same vehicle as Larry David — but they’ll adjust.

Let’s see here:

Seattle made the Top 10 List of Most Stolen Cars. Again (20 per day. Minimum)

Not enough money to hire more officers.

Which means that they cannot afford to put officers forward to help put a stop to the record number of assaults on their mass transit routes (normally done by the County Sheriff, but SPD could lend a fuckin’ hand, donchathink?).

Hell, they can’t even stop a group of “yoots” from busting out the front windows in a neighborhoods worth of homes and attacking baby stroller pushing couples.

Yeah, I think the city has bigger things to worry about than their police department “Going Green”.

But then again, that is why I left the stinkhole.
