“Unbelievable” was the reaction from PetPAC today after Members of the California State Assembly voted 41-38 to outlaw the existence of mixed-breed dogs and cats in the Golden State.
Assembly Bill 1634, authored by Los Angeles Assemblyman Lloyd Levine, will allow only select purebred dogs and cats to breed. Pet owners who don’t sterilize their mixed breed pets by four months of age will face a $500 fine and possible criminal penalties.
Oh sure, you can keep them if you take them to the doctor, but isn’t that your choice.

Btw, all my pets are spayed or neutered, much to Russell’s dismay. I think it is a smart decision, but it should be your decision, not that of the government. Especially as they are the ones who get to decided which breeds are “worthy” of breeding.

When James Pendergast failed to relicense his 17-year-old dog, he figured he had a pretty good excuse: He was moving out of Seattle to his family home in Florida, and taking the dog with him.
But he didn’t tell Seattle Animal Control, never believing he was supposed to. Now he’s nearly $500 poorer — the result of fees and fines that snowballed and eventually were garnisheed from his bank account.
Remember, cities only like having their police agencies catching thieves because they hate the competition.

Droves of cats and kittens are swarming into animal shelters nationwide, and global warming is to blame, according to one pet adoption group.
Several shelters operated by a national adoption organization called Pets Across America reported a 30 percent increase in intakes of cats and kittens from 2005 to 2006, and other shelters across the nation have reported similar spikes of stray, owned and feral cats.
I couldn’t stop laughing. If I hadn’t read the title of the story, I’d have figured they were blaming it on Bush and Cheney.

That’s funny. It couldn’t have anything to do with the fact that maybe, just maybe, more cats are just being caught and brought to shelters, could it? Their logic is assuming that the rate of capture has stayed constant over time. Idiots…
Just remember… those four-legged friends are worth more to most liberals than the two-legged, for whatever warped and twisted reason. The spay and neuter law is absolutely ridiculous, and more than a little distressing… I just moved here, damnit!
