Doping wind is not the easiest thing to do. Jon suggested that once you and your spotter have made your best guess, take the shot. If you missed, oh well, try again.
Each shot is a learning experience. No one is a “natural” at doping winds. You can only succeed through experience.
Yup… found that out the other day at the 600 yard line doing some High Power practice. The wind was about 15-20 mph almost completely head on. However, it had a nasty habit of fishtailing between about 3-5 minutes (with my long-line load, anyway) left to about 3 minutes right. It’s not helpful for your score to have a 7 at 9 o’clock, followed by a 7 at 3 o’clock. Sure is fun, however. 🙂
