The Party of Gun Control

They say they aren’t. Their supporters will deny it until the cows come home by themselves.

But the fact remains that the Democratic Party is not. They are The Party of Gun Control. If they supported the Right to Keep and Bear Arms, maybe then they’d be Democratic enough to be the Party with The Name. But they won’t so they aren’t. The are “The Democrat Party” in name and in beliefs.

Their version of “Democratic” ends at the ballot box. The Soap Box they don’t really like because you may say something Un-Politically Correct. The Jury Box works for them, so long as it extends the powers of the state.

But in their mind, you should never dare think about the Cartridge Box.

Proof has been lain at our feet for years by the party’s very members. Yes, Repubs have had their moments of stupidity, mostly from not reading what they were voting for or signing (even Reagan fell for this one).

Last Friday, Uncle linked a dKos diary on this very subject

As many of you probably know by now, Rep. Carolyn McCarthy’s noxious HR 1022 now has at least 30 co-sponsors in the House, all of them Democrats. Many of us have been caught off-guard by this – until now.

This was previously shared only on the Amendment II Democrats Discussion Group, but frankly, all pro-RKBA Democrats need to know about this. Starting immediately, I want volunteers who are willing to pressure their Democratic Representatives not to sign on as co-sponsors of HR 1022.

The dKos diarist goes on to link to the online petition forms they’ve made up for folks to sign.

Good on them for doing so. Unfortunately, it won’t work all that well since disarming the populace is as much a Democrat Party platform as the maintaining the failing Social Security Ponzi Scheme.

Read just a few excerpts from the comments of this diary:

Push for real gun registration and tracking. Push to get guns that aren’t registered off the street, for real. Push to keep guns off the LIRR. Push for a licensing regime that is as difficult as the one for cars.

Gun owners who take the line that there is no problem except a lack of education invite bans because bans work in the face of recalcitrant companies and dealers.

———-

For starters, Colin Ferguson used a Ruger R89 pistol to gun down his victims. That gun wasn’t banned by the 1994 gun ban, nor is it listed on McCarthy’s HR 1022. Most of the guns on McCarthy’s list are rifles.

Rifles in general account for a very low number of violent crimes – and that includes the rifles with pistol grips, folding stocks, etc. If McCarthy wanted to show that she was serious about fighting gun-related crimes, she’d go after handguns instead.

———-

So all of those weapons are used by the millitary and police forces, correct? Who in their right mind has any need for these weapons? Who hunts deer with an AR15 which is basically an M16? I think unless I see how insanely restrictive this bill is I’m going to side with the Congresswoman.

———-

FWIW, a bill to ban the Steyr AUG or the FN/FAL wouldn’t bother me or most reasonable people.

A bill that bans handguns with threaded barrels or handguns with over a 10-round magazine is a big deal though.

———–

I don’t know enough about guns to comment on the threaded barrels or 10 round magazine, but I would side with a bill that bans those guns mentioned above, along with the MAC-10 and TEC-9, and SPAS 12 shotgun. I guess some more public comment would be in order for this bill.

———–

We need a multi-tiered national or state gun licensing system. One needs a license to drive a car, and a different license to drive a truck; to get either one has to pass written and practical tests. The same ought to be true for guns. Every car has an individual tracking number and sales of cars are closely controlled (of course there are plenty of folks skirting the rules); the same should be true for guns.

And that isn’t even going 1/3 of the way through the comment thread.

There are as many comments speaking out against the bill, but most of them are from just a few individuals who are hanging out in the thread. If after trying to be reasonable with these folks they still cannot see that their support for the Democrat Party means they will own fewer, and eventually no, firearms, then they are blind.

If anyone needs to see more proof that the Democrat Party is The Party of Gun Control, look no further than last Friday. If we really want to derail HR-1022, this is what needs to be done anytime it is brought up:

House Vote on D.C. Seat Thwarted

Republicans yesterday derailed a vote on a bill giving the District its first full seat in the House of Representatives by trying to tie the legislation to a drastic weakening of the city’s gun-control laws.

The surprise development came as the Democratic-dominated House appeared on the verge of passing the measure. Many D.C. vote activists had gathered at the Capitol for what they hoped would be a historic day — the first time in nearly 30 years the chamber would vote to give the District a full-fledged House representative.

But as more than three hours of debate drew to a close, Rep. Lamar S. Smith (R-Tex.) proposed sending the bill back to committee with additional language gutting the city’s gun restrictions.

Democrats retreated, fearing that conservative, pro-gun members of their party could be tempted to side with Republicans. The majority party postponed further action to give voting-rights backers time to regroup.

They feared one good law (giving DC citizens they gun rights back) being attached to their bad law (giving DC a pair of Representatives) so much that, even though they really, really want to extend their lead in the House, they backed off.

It’s kind of funny how their “My Body, My Choice”  meme fails when it leads to people being more independant from the state, isn’t it?

After living, and working, on the “good” side of the law for all my life, these proposed bans will make an outlaw out of me. I won’t give up the weapons when asked, and when passive resistance to gun bans, registration schemes and the inevitable confiscation comes along, I will write off the rest of my life as a civilized person and become an outlaw, as active an outlaw as my strength permits.

“Molon Labe” will be real for me, and for quite a few others, I expect. I have no desire to live in a totalitarian state. Politicians of all stripes have lived and governed up until now in a nation with an armed citizenry, and the nation prospered. If we are to be ruled by a new type of politician who decides that whatever they are going to do requires disarming the population, then it’s time to change the government.

If both the soap box and the ballot box have failed to secure that change BACK to the government we are supposed to have, the change will be effected out of the cartridge box.

I’m ready. Are my enemies ready for me?
