I wanna Palomino

Sorry for the short shrift today. Got stuck at work after my wonderful co-workers decided that “Snowpocolypse 2007” was just too much for them and had “extra-credit” work (notice I didn’t say extra-pay) to finish.

However, this looks as though it would be very interested to try, though for the horse’s sake, I think they should start people out with a paintball gun

Also, do you think they’re using shotshells?

What kind of revolvers were they using? I counted at least 8 rounds, and there were parts of the course I couldn’t see whether they were shooting or not.

I know that there are DA 9-shot .22 revolvers, but I don’t know of any SA revolvers with more than 6-round capacity. Also, I don’t get the part of stuffing the horse into the trailer as part of the timed event. I musta missed something when I watched oaters in my early days.

BTW, this would be a proper challenge on a dirt bike or ATV.

I forgotz to answer the whole essay question: yes, I believe that they are using rat shot on those little balloons. Still a challenge, though.

I saw a show about mounted shooting and they use a crushed walnut shell fill in the shells, so after 15 or 20 feet the load is spent.

Cowboy action shooters would normally have 2 six-guns in some reasonable center-fire caliber, say .38 or better. 8 shots means you have to change guns, and yes, they would be single-action only. From the smoke, I’d say this was the case, and BP loads, too.

Unless, of course, the rules were different here.

Cowboy Mounted shooters use single-actions chambered in .45 Colt with black-powder blanks. It’s the unburned powder that breaks the balloons.
