I knew you could. Now try “Overpriced”.
Excellent. You have just described the two vehicles that will put GM even deeper in the red than they already are.
The new Camaro
Of the two, I’d run the Pontiac. But for my money, I’d rather just have the Vette for 10K more, because I have one more word for you: “Overweight”.
Just like 86 1/2 to 91 Supras, this thing is a luxo-whale, not a sportscar. The 400hp 6.0L will move it nicely, for $42K, but watch the V6’s get eaten my 6cyl Mustangs (and and 4cyl Celicas) all the live long day.
Remember, GM thinks the market for these is aging baby boomers, who like their luxury accoutrements but still want to be rebels even after retirement….
Pricing is not yet known on the Camaro, but it’s said to compete with the Mustang.
And the Firebird you are showing is a nice photochop done by a talented guy named Kevin Morgan, but it’s NOT being produced by GM, who has said repeatedly that the Firebird is dead. I wish it was going to be produced, because it’s better looking than the Camaro.
Personally, I have begun to consider the rehashs of Muscle cars like aging boxers. The lines are similar enough for people to recognize what it was, but man has it put on the pounds since its fighting days.
Right after the ’05 Mustangs came out, I saw one, and thought “That looks pretty nice.” About 20 seconds later I saw a ’65 go by, and thought “Jesus the new ones must weigh twice as much!”
Seeing that new “Camaro” makes me feel the same thing: Its a boxer who had way too many donuts after retiring.
