Pre-Election Day Election Post

Yes, I realized that taking the week before the election off kind of held me back in posting election items. But better late than never!

First up, Sharkansky at Sound Politics posts to let us know that there are new guidelines from Washington Secretary of State, Sam Reed, as to how to “divine voter intent”.

Myself, I don’t believe in voter intent. If it isn’t clear to a 1st grader who was selected then the voter has no intent, is quite possibly too stupid to vote and deserves to have that portion of their ballot thrown out.

Eric Earling at Sound Politics decided to frighten folks (I guess he didn’t get enough out of Halloween) by posing a scary scenario:

More seriously, the story closes with a reference to the possibility of all eyes in the nation turning to the 8th Congressional District if the race is close, AND if control of the House of Representatives hangs in the balance.

What?!?

King County counting ballots for control of the House? Oh, [insert profanity of choice here]! We’d make Florida in 2000 look like kindergarten.

The chance of such events is small, but the thought, terrifying.

I don’t quake in my boots very often, but I was when I read that!

John at Some Poor Schmuck lets us know that the Democrats, defenders of illegal alien voter rights, proponents of “Mail Only” voting and thinkers of positive thoughts on the subject of a “Vote-By-Phone” system, don’t think that the military can be trusted to help deployed service members vote by e-mail.

I am in the 9th Congressional District of Washington and will be voting for Steven Cofchin (R). However, if I lived in the 6th Congressional District, I’d be voting for Doug Cloud (R).

Friend and co-worker, Paul, sent me a link to Cloud’s website when he found that Cloud promises to follow former US Senator Harry P. Cain’s 10 Commandments

1. You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift.
2. You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong.
3. You cannot help small men by tearing big men down.
4. You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich.
5. You cannot lift the wage earner by pulling down the wage payer.
6. You cannot keep out of trouble by spending more than your income.
7. You cannot further the brotherhood of man by inciting class hatred.
8. You cannot establish sound security on borrowed money.
9. You cannot build character and courage by taking away a man’s initiative.
10. You cannot really help men by having the government tax them to do for them what they can and should do for themselves.

Sounds like a good man to me. I dare any Democrat anywhere in the nation make the same promise.

For a quick look into the history of Harry P. Cain, here is a Wiki page that I found to be quite accurate. Let me just add that he served alongside Warren G. Magnuson (D) and was succeeded by Henry “Scoop” Jackson (D).

Of course, this was back when the (D) stood for “Strong on (D)efense”. Unlike today, when it stands for “(D)ipshit”.
