The eco-socialists long ago met with the EPA and the National Marine Fisheries Service. In the end, the EPA and the NMFS capitulated to the eco-socialists that hatchery salmon and wild salmon were “different” from one another.
And so went the EPA and the NMFS, making rules governing fishing, trying to keep commercial fishermen, sport fishers and the tribes happy. OK, maybe not happy, but at least away from the courts.
And all was well enough left alone.
Then a new ruling came down over the Killer Whales in Washington State waters. The line was “Each pod is its own particular species. The pods are small and they need protection. The whales need the salmon. The salmon need protection.”
And that is where this story begins.
Do not be fooled by the names of the plaintiffs in the case. They do not wish to scale down anything. They want hatchery salmon treated as wild salmon, and that is their bottom line. Once they do that, you lovers of the sal-mon will think you’re buying caviar, and forget about catching your own.
