A Long, Long Time Ago

On a blog not so far away from this one.

Actually, it was back in 2004 when we were using Movable Type. Those archives had to go bye-bye because of a need for server space.

Back then, I made the statement that France, and actually most of Western Europe, was a “Rouge Corpse” (I have also, more recently, said the same thing about San Francisco here).

For those not familiar with the term “Rouge Corpse”, it describes a dead body that has been extensively made up with cosmetics to look life-like. It was popularized in, of course, Fwance, during the mid-to-late 1700’s for members of the aristocracy.

I thoroughly believe that this describes Western Europe to a tee.

Not confining himself to a single sentence, Mark Steyn has written a book titled “America Alone: The End of the World as We Know It”.

Captain Ed links to an interview with Steyn talking about the tome here. Very good stuff.
