A Severe Lack of Speculation

I have not yet received any guesses of a serious nature as to the identity of the mystery band in yesterday’s Soundboard post.

Since tomorrow is Thursday, the usual day for the Soundboard posts, I’ll wait until start of business tomorrow before divulging the answer. I think a goodly number of folks will be very surprised.

But let us see if there are any who won’t be surprised.

Listened to it twice, not a clue.
I stopped listening to the music on the radio in about 1975 (it was all Elton/Wings/Eagles/Doobies/Boston all the time).
Can you at least give a hint about the decade when the guitarist hit it big?

  2. Phil says:

Recorded in 1967, published in 1968.

I think I may have found out when I used the tag editor to put the song name on the file.

Of course, I’m young enough to say “who?”

And I still think the best Beatles covers I’ve heard have been those by Laibach.

  4. RS says:

The guitar sounds just like Brian May (from Queen) but the singer sure isn’t Freddie Mercury. I’m stumped.

    -RS

It’s a toughie, for sure. Some of the guitar and drum work is reminiscent of Jimi and the boys, but the outro solo doesn’t sound all that much like Hendrix.

Plus, the Hammond is out of place in there, too.

    I dunno. Steppenwolf?

OK, here is my guess. Jimmy Page on the guitar. I checked Wikipedia and it did not mention him being in any bands besides LZ and the Yardbirds, though, and that is not the Yardbirds’ singer.
Guess #2: Jeff Beck on the guitar.

My Google-fu says it is The Moving Sidewalks, from their album Flash, and the guitarist is Billy Gibbons, later of ZZ Top.

But that’s the only way I have any clue…
