Have A Go

The surprise is now at Casa de Analog. I do also have a second surprise, but due to space issues, the reveal on that will have to wait until after next weekend (that is one hint).

But I promised more than one hint yesterday, and so here you go.

That is pretty much the actual size of the jpg, so you can click on it if’n you want to, but I doubt it will reveal much more.

The Analog Wife said that that was a pretty sorry hint picture and suggested that I wasn’t being fair. After a few harumphs, I conceeded and made this one as well.

That is also an actual size jpeg.

I’m sure you’ll get it with the second one, and go ahead and leave your guesses in the comments if you feel like it.

The grand reveal will be tomorrow. In the meantime, I’ll be playing with my new toy.

The second one is a pickup camper tiedown bracket, appearing to protrude from the side of a pickup bed. The pickup is an old one, because the bed is decorated with styleside molding.

The first one could be anything, but given my above guess at the second photo, I’d say its a photo of a pickup hood, shot at an angle to reflect the skyline, with sky and trees in the background. There appears to be a style-line down the middle of the picture, which confirms it’s status as a vehicle hood.

The style appears to be of an older, squared-off design, well before the swoopy lines of today’s vehicles, so I’d say it dates from the late ’70s or ’80s.

The hood in photo 1 does not seem to match the color of the bed in photo 2, but maybe that’s due to angles.

The hood IS very shiny, which would indicate a garaged and probably well-maintained vehicle (or a gypsy WD-40 polish job).

So, you got an older pickup with a slide-in camper.

I wonder what sort of engine it is powered by?

  3. Rivrdog says:

If I’m right, and it’s an older, full-size pickup, as my first prize, I select the right to help you spec out the rebuild of it’s thumper engine….if I’m wrong, well, my mechanical expertise has already taken more than a few hits here, so one more won’t hurt TOO bad.

I’m going to go out on a limb here, based on previous observations and my own experience.

    1976-1978 Ford, full size (F-250?).

Since there is a camper bracket, it should have a large V-8.
(My Dad’s had a 490 under the hood. Then he sold it and got the 2003 F-250 with the Triton V-10)

  5. 1978 F150 long bed w/351M engine, 117,341 miles on it, and the left rear tire needs air……..

    ……Mr. C.

  6. Rivrdog says:

OK, Mr. C., you smartass, what size light bulb does the dome light take?

  7. dagamore says:

If it is a ’78 f150 then the dome light replacement part is a Sylvania Bulb part number 561, as found here. http://www.partsamerica.com/ProductList.aspx?parttype=312&ptset=A&searchfor=Instrument+Lamps

I thought everyone knew that 😛

and that does look like a older ford truck hood in the first photo, it lookes just like my old ’79 Ranger. also with a 351M a great motor.
