Here Comes Madame President

…because, despite the polls and the desperate buzz among the Republican elite about Rudy Giuliani taking the lead on the nomination from McCain, I can’t see him winning in a general election.

Why?

Well, the wife and I flipped over to C-SPAN Friday night to look at their coverage of the CPAC conference, to which the Republican candidates made their dutiful pilgrimage. I specifically wanted to hear Giuliani, because since 9-11 I frankly haven’t paid attention to him and thought I should reexamine him.

Well, after about three minutes of his speech, the wife and I looked at each other. I said, “Hillary will crush him like a bug.” She nodded agreement. I changed the channel.

Simply put, the man is an awful speaker and has absolutely zero charisma. Hillary’s no great shakes either, but charisma she has in abundance.

Some pundits think 2008 could be the Republicans’ year, based in part on the idea that Giuliani can walk all over Hillary. I think not.

To thank Remington last week, I picked up 1,000 rounds of their .380 ball ammo as it shoots really really well through the Bersa. Stock up now on all your firearms goodies, folks; 2009 might see some interesting changes coming down the pike….

I disagree with you about Hillary’s “charisma”. She may have “charisma” to a woman, but all I see is the look of someone who is trying to get to the hidden meaning behind every word she hears. She not in the room with anyone who interviews her. She’s on a different plane. I’m surprised the Mrs. can’t see that because EVERY female I talk to has noticed it.

On the ammo issue, I agree perfectly. Barring some miracle which convinces Gingrich to run and then win or Brownback to beat out about 10 other GOP candidates and then win, I don’t see a GOP POTUS vetoing the antigun legislation that is obviously headed our way.

I was reading about Fred Dalton Thompson the other day. I’m a big FDT fan, but I’m not sure whether he’s really considering a run or if we’re just praying for someone to ride in on a white horse.

Ideologically I think Newt’s solid, but he’s already been demonized.

What I keep having night sweats over is a McCain-Obama third party ticket.

Each one polls at over 30% of their party and each one gets a much higher than normal percentage of the other party.

The only saving grace to such a win would be the blow it would deal to the existing two party system.
