The Soundboard: A Dedication

You’ll never guess who I got an email from last night.

Our good man in the ‘stan, Chad of The Dogtulosba Blog

Actually, he’s currently known as 1LT Chad XO B/27 EN BN (C)(A)(RT).

He wrote me to say howdy and that while he was reading the Good Ship RNS, his 1Sgt was looking over his shoulder, said he knew of us and couldn’t believe, probably given our political leanings, that we were from Chad’s hometown of Seattle.

He’s partially right, the NW Blogstation is now in Tacoma, but we’re previously from Seattle.

I wrote him back and asked how life in a rocky place near the top of the world was going and if they needed anything, among other topics. I haven’t gotten a reply from him just yet, and while I might know how to get items they aren’t supposed to have into the zone, I’ll wait for a reply before heading off to the post office.

But I did want to give the guys something and figured that they might just be a little bit tired of the tunage they went over with in April. So let us begin with a dedication to the LT and all the guys who are stuck, quite literally, in the asscrack of Afghanistan.

First up, they’re Combat Engineers, who can build a house in one day and then blow it to hell the next, so we’re going to go big and bad with a big and bad song dams on rivers. From their best album ever, Dirt, we have Alice in Chains

Dam that River – Alice in Chains

Next, because the ‘stan is a dusty place with probably very little in the way of “hygenic maintenance facilities” , I’m sure a scruffy mug is not the most uncommon of sights there. So from their best album ever, Badmotorfinger, we have Soundgarden

Face Pollution – Soundgarden

(Anyone notice that they are both Seattle bands?)

And lastly, Chad and the rest of his accompanying gentlemen are Airborn qualified, so we need to get them something to try and match the ramp-life I’m sure they’ve been missing (snicker). Dave Grohl of the Foo Fighters got a bunch of his favorite metal musicians together and made an album under the name Probot. One of those musicians was none other than Lemmy of Motorhead and this is the song they cranked out.

Shake Your Blood – Probot

Of course, I have no idea if they already have this stuff and are sick of it, or if the dumb little intros made them gag, but then, they do have an always open request line here at RNS.

Good day to you gentlemen and we’ll see you all when you come home. But until then, don’t be strangers.
