Rumor, rumor….

Say Uncle links to a rumor that within the next couple of days VP Dick Cheney will step down for health reasons, to be replaced by Senator Frist.

Well, health reasons or “health reasons,” I’d be sorry to see him go. He’s the main reason I got excited about the GWB candidacy back in 2000 — I’ve been watching Cheney, and being impressed by him, since about age 12 when I first started watching the MacNeil-Lehrer Newshour. Even back then, the guy had gravitas!

Lots of my liberal friends consider Bill Clinton to be the epitome of the American politician, in the best sense of the word. For me, it’s always been Cheney. Cheney has Clinton’s glibness and appearance of expertise on a host of topics, but Cheney brings a seriousness to all his discussions that yanks the issues out of the ethereal posturing of politics and returns them to being about serious, realistic, honest public policy — which is where our politics should be all of the time, but of course aren’t.

I also can’t see Cheney fiddling around with an intern while there’s serious work still to be done.

Needless to say, I hope the rumor’s false. The ultimate source (quoted at DougPetch.com) claims his “military sources are 100%.” We’ll see real quick, won’t we?

  1. I agree with you about the gravitas and like Cheney too. I remember watching him be interviewed by some $150-haircut newsfluffie, questioning him after 9/11 and he seriously brought the cannons to bear. After he’d clarified the dribble that the Anchor had spewed, he lined it up and marched it down the hall and out the door while the Anchor was riveted to their seat.

Yeah. If I could use only one word to describe Cheney, it would be “adult.”

  3. If this is true, get ready for the first female vice president. Condi is her name.

  4. Uncle Jefe says:

    You are absolutely correct.
    Sharp wit, yet serious.
And those interns, well, Cheney could handle them, but he’d do it on his time.
See Ace O’ Spades for an understanding of ‘Dick’…

I totally agree with David. I had the same thought this morning listening to him being interviewed by Bill Bennett. He said then that his health was good, if being monitored so closaely that all of Washington knew it if he developed a hiccup. Dick-Condi, 08 has a nice ring to it, but I may have to rethink that title.
