From the Washington Law Examiner article by Michael Reitz writing about the extension of Seattle’s trespassing laws to include anyone on city property legally carrying a firearm.

So far, I haven’t seen any extensions to the trespassing laws that covers people on city property illegally carrying a firearm, leading me to believe that Mayor Greg Nickels doesn’t really care about them.

I wouldn’t quite say there is a constitutional right to carry a gun at every city-sponsored event or in many buildings that already exist throughout the state.

In case you couldn’t tell from that line, Kirlikowske never saw a gun ban he didn’t like. Or a Washington Ceasefire fundraising event he couldn’t ditch work to attend.

Vanity Plate Fail

When I got my personalized plate for Buddy the Jeep, I was slightly worried that the State of Washington would deny me. They are one of the most restrictive states when it comes to issuing vehicle tags. But either my description of what was on the plate was good enough to pass their scrutiny, or they figured out what it says and they don’t mind a dark blue Cherokee running around with “The Cutthroat” written in Spanish on one of their plates.

Some folks aren’t so lucky

3M3TIB looked harmless enough, so the state Department of Licensing granted the vehicle owner’s request for a vanity plate to go on the woman’s 2000 Ford pickup.

The party was over, however, when a cop read the personalized message in his rear view mirror as “BITEME.”

CABRON — literally Spanish for a male goat, but slang for bastard, asshole, fucker, bitch, etc. — was requested and granted to the owner of a 2001 Ford pickup. (What’s up with Ford pickup owners, anyway?) It, too, was revoked in response to a complaint, despite the owner’s claim that all it stood for was “California Bronze.”

For a while, UFNWISH actually adorned a 2006 Mustang. Following a complaint, the DOL rejected the owner’s explanation that he was in the military, where UFN stood for “until further notice.” Hence the meaning of his vanity was that his current vehicle “was not his dream car, but he’d wait,” officials said. Part of the reason regulators rejected that story was they were trying to figure out what was not to like about a late model red coupe.

There’s no money in it for ACORN

And military personnel don’t generally vote for them, so of course, the Democrats aren’t interested.

Rep. Roy Blunt, the House Republican whip, on July 8 introduced a resolution demanding that the Defense Department better enable U.S. military personnel overseas to vote in the November elections. That act was followed by silence. Democrats normally leap on an opportunity to find fault with the Bush Pentagon. But not a single Democrat joined Blunt as a co-sponsor, and an all-Republican proposal cannot pass in the Democratic-controlled House.

Analysis by the federal Election Assistance Commission, rejecting inflated Defense Department voting claims, estimated overseas and absentee military voting for the 2006 midterm elections at a disgracefully low 5.5 percent. The quality of voting statistics is so poor that there is no way to tell how many of the slightly over 330,000 votes actually were sent in by the absentee military voters and their dependents and how many by civilian Americans living abroad — 6 million all total.

Nobody who has studied the question objectively sees any improvement since 2006, and that is a scandal. Retired U.S. Marine Corps Capt. Charles Henry wrote in the July issue of the U.S. Naval Institute Proceedings: “While virtually everyone involved … seems to agree that military people deserve at least equal opportunity when it comes to having their votes counted, indications are that in November 2008, many thousands of service members who try to vote will do so in vain.”

These should be the first votes counted. Not the flotsam that they are treated as.

What is she afraid of?

Pitchforks and torches?

Democratic congressional candidate Mary Jo Kilroy sent a look-alike to rural parade. Much like Saddam Hussein, Ohio 15th congressional district Democratic candidate Mary Jo Kilroy uses body doubles when she tires of having to deal with all of the little people she intends to represent.

Such was the case last week when Kilroy sent her campaign body double to represent her at the Plain City Steam Thresher parade. Apparently the Amish-dominated city was too tough a crowd for Kilroy to handle.

I’ve heard of lazy, but damn.

Though, at least she lives in the district, unlike Florida Congressman, Robert Wexler

Bill O’Reilly did a good number on “local” Congressman Robert Wexler tonight.

And I think Wexler is in a bit of trouble.

You see, the longtime Democratic rep says he lives in Delray Beach and he’s required to maintain a residence in his district. But he really lives in Potomac MD. The house in Delray that he calls his “offical residence” is owned by Lawrence and Roslyn Cohen, the parents of Wexler’s wife, Laurie. And it’s in a restricted over-55 community, which makes it impossible for Wexler and and his three children to reside there.

He’s been taking our tax dollars, given to him to “maintain” a residence in his district for over a decade.

He needs to step down and go to jail.

A good plan to die at sea

If one were bonded to the idea of dying at sea, this would be a good plan

Taking the protest against the Gaza blockade to a new level, two boats packed with foreign left-wing activists will attempt to sail from Cyprus to the sealed Gaza harbor in two weeks’ time.

The operation is being directed by members of the International Solidarity Movement and the Israeli Commission against House Demolitions. A Web site, FreeGaza, has been set up to collect donations and update the public.

The group – which numbers some 40 activists – has purchased two boats, one called SS Free Gaza and the other SS Liberty, named after the USS Liberty that was mistakenly bombed by the Israel Air Force during the Six Day War. Thirty-four American sailors were killed in the bombing.

The boats are scheduled to set sail from Cyprus on August 5 and arrive, according to organizer Angela Godfrey-Goldstein, at the Gaza coast a day or two later.

“The purpose is to get into the Gaza harbor and breach the siege,” Godfrey-Goldstein said Thursday. “The IDF will probably stop us but part of the point is to show that Gaza is closed off.”

The ISM has set it up so that Israel loses either way, and I wouldn’t put it past these freaks to go so far as to rig the boats to sink so that they can claim Israel did shoot at them.

Now to find where they got the money to buy boats big enough to carry 40 people for two to three days.

The owners of the now defunct NBA team, the Seattle Supersonics, have absconded with the team franchise to Oklahoma City, OK.

They have already decided on a new name for the team: The Oklahoma City Thunder

The Wife, sports fanatic that she is, finds that name a nine on the Lame Scale.

Seeing as how the team was playing poorly when they left Seattle, she doubts that their being north of Texas will inspire them to do much better and she has her own suggestion for their name:

The Oklahoma City Bombers

Oh yes, she did.

Andrew Riley over at the All American Blogger posted his Ten Greatest Grunge Era Songs and while I agree with most of them, I would like to add a couple to the list to make it an even dozen.

In 1992, a horrible movie shot in Seattle hit theaters. That same horrible movie spawned an excellent soundtrack. I’m sure you know which flick I’m speaking of and since I won’t name it on these hallowed pages, here is a link to the album.

Just who would volunteer their home for this?

A new kind of warning has come up about protesters gearing up for the Democratic National Convention.

Denver firefighters have learned of a house full of urine being stored to throw at police. An internal memo is warning first responders that disgusting acts are a significant concern.

Protesters in other cities have used urine and feces filled balloons to throw at police and there are concerns that could happen during the Democratic National Convention in Denver.

Ghah! I’d have to just “accidentally” drop the last jar on their living room floor at the end of that raid. Make them live with their decision for a while.

If you’re not yet insulted

You aren’t reading enough gun blogs.

The Mayor of San Francisco, Gavin Newsome, refuses to acknowledge that it is the policies of his city which led to the murder of Anthony Bologna, Matthew Bologna, and Michael Bologna.

Instead, he uses a good, old gun bigot propaganda line to attempt to wash away the blame.

He actually smiles as he says the NRA is against “anything that restricts the opportunity for a guy who gets cut off in traffic from pulling out a hand gun and almost assassinating an entire family, as was the case a few days ago in San Francisco, where three people were gunned down. That somehow that is appropriate and wonderful and that person celebrated his freedom to carry a loaded pistol”.

Sadly, the sorry bunch of elitists that live in his city will lap this up like they do all of his bullshit (Link found at Uncle’s). He’ll be successful in enabling many more crimes of this type, just as Rep. Carolyn McCarty was at getting this law abiding, but politically active against Rep. McCarthy’s interests, citizen’s firearms confiscated after he paid a visit to her office.

An outspoken Long Island gun owner’s home was raided by Nassau County detectives, who seized two dozen weapons he lawfully owns just one day after Rep. Carolyn McCarthy’s office made a 911 call about him.

Freeport resident Gabriel Razzano claims he was targeted in the spring raid for his “unpopular” political beliefs.

He’s now filed a $5 million federal lawsuit against the Nassau PD and McCarthy, charging they joined forces to strip him of his guns unconstitutionally.

I’ve spent many an hour writing and visiting my elected State Reps in Olympia, almost exclusively on the topic of their wishes to enact draconian gun control laws in my state. This is why all my firearms are not on my premises.

The New McCarthyism?

But all is not of woe in the land of the Gunnie today. Michigan has relaxed it’s ignorant, and racism based, “Safety Inspection” requirements.

While not actually stopping the registration of the firearms of citizens in Michigan, the new laws do cancel the requirement to make a visit during very restricted and inconvenient windows of opportunity to your local constable’s offices so that they can register your guns in their data base.

This is definitely a case of less being better.

Gold drops again; Dollar Gains vs Euro

Gold prices were plunging Wednesday as the dollar continued to rally and oil prices fell back on continued worries that the government will start cracking down on inflation.

Benchmark bullion futures were shedding $23.30 at $925.20 an ounce in recent action on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange.

Ahh, fresh capitalism in the morning.
