They’re just now figuring this out

Gunnies and other 2A supporters have been saying for decades that if they want gun crime to go down, then they’ll need to actually punish the criminals.

And now, finally, the King County Prosecutor’s Office seems to have actually heard.

An armed juvenile is a threat to the peace of the community, and gun possession by a juvenile is a felony offense when it is not associated with hunting or organized shooting events.

Several weeks later, the teenager stood before a Juvenile Court judge who gave him a standard sentence for his illegal handgun. The judge also sent him a strong message:

The sentence: six months of probation, 40 hours of community service, and a deferred disposition, meaning that the conviction would disappear from his record in a matter of months.

The message? Carrying a gun in your school backpack is no big deal.

Fast forward eight months: The same young man, who had just turned 18, knocks on the back door of a Central District nightclub. The door is opened and he walks in, firing another handgun. He kills one man, severely injures another, and fires nine shots into the crowded club.

The young man now awaits trial in adult court for first-degree murder and assault. This time, he faces a 30-year prison sentence.

The new message? Using the gun in your backpack is a very big deal.

The scenario above is not only true, there are six more just like it from King County in the last year. In each of these six cases of murder and aggravated assault, the teenage defendant had recently been sentenced in Juvenile Court for gun possession, where they each received a minimal sentence. Within a year, each had committed a violent gun crime that landed them in adult court, facing decades in prison.

When the culture in the prosecutor’s office makes the conscious decision to only blame the inanimate object and not the criminal, that is what happens.

And the bodies pile up.

Sooner or later, however, the people get tired of that.

Norm Maleng was infamous for his “blame the gun” beliefs in this arena. And since his passing, Dan Satterberg, the author of the above editorial has figured out where Norm went wrong.

If Dan gets his way, life in King County is going to get significantly better for law abiding citzens. And (not that I care) significantly worse for the non-law abiding.

A big to do

The Wife’s sister is getting pinned by the United States Navy with her Chief Petty Officer insignia this afternoon along with 14 or so other people.

While do not wish to denigrate her accomplishment, I do wonder why there is to be an elaborate dinner, ceremony and ball dance to upgrade an E-6 to an E-7? Does the Navy just like to show off their dress whites after Labor Day or something?

Any Shellbacks, Sons of Neptune or Pollywogs care to enlighten me?

A couple days ago, Uncle stated he was wanting to get a 1911 from STI and asked for opinions on which caliber he should order it in. He got lots of answers and stirred up the .45 ACP vs 40 S&W vs 9mm stinkpot.

Master of all Ballistic Knoweledge, Joe Huffman, pointed to this discussion whereupon the following knowledge was given

If during the time you were reading the latest “stopping power” article you were instead practicing to save your life you would be far, far ahead.

Wouldn’t it be nice?

No, I’m not talking about the song from The Beach Boys.

Though I have found myself humming it while reading this story

In sworn testimony that goes back to the 1970s, former FBI informant Larry Grathwohl had implicated Ayers and Dohrn in the knowledge and/or planning of the bombing murder of San Francisco Police Sergeant Brian V. McDonnell. Metal staples from the powerful bomb ripped through his body, killing him after several agonizing days in the hospital.

The new evidence in the case developed by Jamison adds to the solid information already available and raises the question of when, if ever, the bombers will be prosecuted. There are other witnesses to the bombing plot.

He reports, “Now, speaking publicly for the first time about the investigation, former FBI agents have told Village Voice Media the basis for their belief that the Weather Underground was behind McDonnell’s murder. The agents have revealed that two credible eyewitnesses-both former left-wing radicals tied to the Weathermen-gave detailed statements to investigators in the 1970s alleging that Dohrn and Howard Machtinger, another member of the group, were personally involved in organizing the deadly attack. Both witnesses claimed to have participated in meetings where the bombing was planned, and one confessed to having cased the police station for the Weathermen prior to the explosion.”

I keep remembering that while he was never convicted in criminal court, OJ Simpson was found civilly liable for the murders committed at his Brentwood home. I wonder if there are any surviving relatives of Sergeant McDonnell who would like to give Dorn and Ayers a spin?

Only the Top 20

Frank Warner has a list of The 20 Things the Press Won’t Report on When Democrats are in Power.

Personally, I’d just consider the list a the tip of the iceberg. The next four years and four months will make said iceberg very, very large below the waterline.

The UN has been looking at the search history of each terminal of their intraweb and come to the same conclusion the right-thinking world has over the past decade or more

“The number of sites devoted to child pornography worldwide is growing. The number of predators connected to the Internet at any one time is estimated to be 750,000,” said Najat Maala, Special Rapporteur on the child prostitution and child pornography issue.

Unicef also estimates there are more than four million websites featuring minors, including those of children aged under two years.

Now they just need to figure out how to quietly withdraw UN funding from those sites.

I just have to ask

Where has this guy been for the past eight years?

As a child in Armenia, Henry Gasparian witnessed firsthand the horrors of Nazi Germany. Two uncles were killed, his father wounded and a brother starved to death during the German invasion and occupation of the Soviet Union. So when Gasparian, 70, of Edmonds, saw a poster of President Obama with a Hitler mustache near the entrance to the Edmonds Farmers Market on Sept. 5, he admits that his reaction was “personal and emotional.”

He tried to grab the fliers being passed out by supporters of Lyndon LaRouche, a perennial presidential candidate who has likened Obama’s health-care proposals to the Nazi extermination of Jews and other “undesirables.”

Two young LaRouche supporters told police that Gasparian repeatedly pushed them and grabbed one of their arms. Gasparian said it was they who first pushed him.

Now Gasparian is charged with two counts of fourth-degree assault in Edmonds Municipal Court for what he describes as an attempt by “an old man to say you cannot insult the president with this outrageous campaign.”

I guess I should just be glad they mentioned that it was the LaRouchians with the poster and not just said “right wing nutbags” like the rest of the media.
