A former Forest Grove schools superintendent charged with molesting a 7-year-old girl died after a self-inflicted shooting Monday afternoon at his home in rural Washington County.
Irvin Nikolai, 71, was found with a gunshot wound to the chest in the 40700 block of Northwest Otis Lane. His wife told authorities that Nikolai was cleaning several guns when one discharged.
The Washington County Sheriff’s Office is investigating, but detectives do not suspect foul play, said Sgt. David Thompson, a sheriff’s spokesman.
