Our good man, Rivrdog has decided that he has had with all of the available political parties, and has decided that starting his own will suit him best.

While like everything that I see in the platform, I would suggest that the date he is looking for isn’t the 1950’s, but closer to the nice round year of 1800.
America was still untamed and treated as such. People who couldn’t take it upon themselves make their own way generally stood a good chance of paying for it themselves.
The states were still almost wholly independant of the federal government and there wasn’t even a hint of a welfare state.
Granted, it wasn’t not a good thing to be a non-caucasian person in America around this time, but since then, we have woked those things out. In 1800, we’ve still got a number of the Founding Fathers around and folks were generally polite. However, when they weren’t, taking on an opponent in a duel was considered psuedo-illegal, but it was not an infrequent happening.
Then again, that is just my opinion. You might think about it yourself and take it up with RD.
